On June 6th 1944, a pivotal moment in 20th century history which shaped the course of our lives, took place on the beaches of North Western France. This highly complex and dangerous mission involving more than 156,000 Allied troops, ultimately marked the beginning of the end of the Second World War, a conflict which, since 1939, had claimed the lives of millions.

Approved by the King, this left-facing effigy is by renowned engraver Jody Clark who is most well-known for designing the United Kingdom’s fifth and final official definitive coinage portrait of Elizabeth II.
