Brand new British Isles Silver Proof £5 Coin release featuring a remarkable design reproduction - issued in 2025 to mark the 400th Anniversary of the accession of Charles I, our only executed king

On the 30th January 1649, for the first time in more than 1,000 years of our Royal history, the king of England was led from St James’ Palace to the scaffold outside the Banqueting Hall at London’s Whitehall where he was publicly beheaded, in front of hundreds of witnesses, with one swift blow of the axe.

To mark the 400th anniversary of the accession to the throne by King Charles I in 1625 – a reign that ended brutally - the new limited edition Juxon Medal Silver Proof £5 Coin has been officially approved by Buckingham Palace with an edition limit of just 2,025 pieces.

Struck in 925/1000 Sterling Silver to the most pristine Proof finish, this remarkable new British Isles design is based on the actual coin, apparently gifted by the king to William Juxon, the Bishop of London and the monarch’s trusted servant and spiritual advisor who administered his last rites before stepping towards the block on that cold winter’s morning (he apparently wore two shirts in case onlookers mistakenly thought he was shivering out of fear). Like the original, on the reverse is Charles I’s official Coat of Arms, featuring a crowned and quartered shield to symbolise his rule over England, Scotland and Ireland.

With a strict 2,025-piece worldwide mintage that appears destined to quickly sell out, the brand new ‘Juxon Medal’ £5 Coin that is struck in 925/1000 Sterling Silver is now available from Harrington & Byrne in limited numbers only. Comes housed in a Deluxe Presentation Case with a Certificate of Authenticity.
