A momentous royal anniversary in 2027

On Saturday 6th February 2027, the United Kingdom and Commonwealth will come together to commemorate 75 years since Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the throne. The young Princess Elizabeth became Queen following the sudden death of her father, King George VI, in 1952, beginning an extraordinary reign that would last for seven remarkable decades and make her the longest-serving monarch in British history.

A unique creation by John Bergdahl

To honour this remarkable chapter in royal history, a NEW British Isles Fine Silver 5oz Coin is now available in strictly limited numbers from Harrington & Byrne. Created specifically to commemorate the anniversary, this exceptional issue showcases an entirely new heraldic design by renowned artist and sculptor John Bergdahl, whose previous work has appeared on a number of official Royal Mint coins that have since sold out.

Officially approved by Buckingham Palace, the NEW 75th Anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s Accession Silver 5oz Coin has been struck from 999/1000 Fine Silver and finished to an exceptional Proof standard. Its reverse features the Coat of Arms of the United Kingdom at its centre, with the quartered shield encircled by the motto of the ancient Most Noble Order of the Garter. Above it sits a crown inspired by the historic St Edward’s Crown, used during Queen Elizabeth II’s 1953 Coronation. The significant date, 6th February 1952, is also incorporated, commemorating the day her extraordinary reign began.

Charles III portrait by Jody Clark

The obverse carries an official portrait of King Charles III, son and successor of Queen Elizabeth II. Following the death of his mother in 2022, Charles became King, bringing his mother’s unprecedented 70-year reign to its conclusion. His official effigy was created by leading engraver Jody Clark, who also produced the final UK coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II – the only British monarch ever to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee.

Just 299 examples have been made available worldwide, with Harrington & Byrne securing only a limited allocation, so early ordering is recommended.
