A landmark royal anniversary in 2027

On Saturday 6th February 2027, Britain and the Commonwealth will mark 75 years since Queen Elizabeth II acceded to the throne. Following the death of her father, King George VI, in 1952, the young Princess Elizabeth began a remarkable reign that would span an unprecedented seven decades, making her the longest-reigning monarch in British history.

A special design by John Bergdahl

To commemorate this extraordinary royal milestone, a NEW British Isles Gold Sovereign is now available in limited numbers from Harrington & Byrne. Created especially in honour of the late Queen, the coin carries a distinctive new heraldic design by renowned artist and sculptor John Bergdahl, whose work has featured on several highly sought-after Royal Mint issues.

Officially approved by Buckingham Palace, the NEW 75th Anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s Accession Gold Proof Sovereign has been meticulously struck in 22-Carat Gold to an exceptional Proof finish. At its heart is the Coat of Arms of the United Kingdom, surrounded by the motto of the ancient Most Noble Order of the Garter. Above the shield is a crown inspired by the historic St Edward’s Crown worn during the Queen’s 1953 Coronation, while the significant date, 6th February 1952, records the moment her extraordinary reign began.

Official portrait of Charles III

The obverse bears an official effigy of Queen Elizabeth II’s son and successor, King Charles III. Following his mother’s death in 2022, Charles became monarch, bringing the longest reign in British history to a close. His portrait was created by renowned engraver Jody Clark, who also designed the final official UK coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II - the monarch whose reign included the historic Platinum Jubilee.
