The biggest royal occasion of 2027

On Saturday 6th February 2027, the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth will commemorate a landmark 75 years since the start of Queen Elizabeth II’s historic reign. Following the unexpected death of her father George VI in 1952, Her Majesty would go on to rule for an astonishing seven decades, making her our longest-serving monarch in the history of our Royal Family.

Designed by John Bergdahl

In tribute, an official NEW gold British Isles Quarter Sovereign can now be secured in limited numbers from Harrington & Byrne. Marking this historic milestone, this coveted issue features a never-before-seen heraldic design, created exclusively in Her Majesty’s honour by celebrated artist and sculptor John Bergdahl, the man behind a number of official ‘sold out’ Royal Mint coins.

Officially approved by Buckingham Palace, the NEW 75thAnniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s Accession Gold Proof Quarter Sovereign has been struck in 22-Carat Gold to the highest Proof finish and depicts, as its centrepiece, the Coat of Arms of the United Kingdom. This quartered shield is surrounded by the official motto of the ancient Most Noble Order of the Garter and sits beneath a crown inspired by the St Edward’s Crown which was used at the Queen’s 1953 Coronation. Also featured is the historic date, 6thFebruary 1952, when the young Princess’ extraordinary lifetime of service began.

Portrait of Charles III by another leading engraver

On the obverse is an official portrait of her son and heir, Charles III. The king inherited the throne following his mother’s passing in 2022, a day which marked the end of her seventy year reign, the longest ever in our entire Royal history. His effigy is by engraver Jody Clark who was also responsible the UK’s final official coinage portrait of Elizabeth II, our only monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee.
