Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill was born into a wealthy and aristocratic family on the 30th November 1874 at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire. He lived to the age of 90 through two world wars, under six monarchs and witnessed the turn of the 20th century but is most famous for leading Britain and her Allies to victory during the Second World War. He was subsequently voted the greatest ever Briton.

Honouring the remarkable statesman

To commemorate 150 years since the birth of Churchill, a brand-new commemorative 3-Coin Sovereign Collection has been approved for release. Featured are three fractional sovereigns, each struck in 22 Carat Gold to the finest Proof finish to honour the great statesman.

Designed by leading artist and sculptor Sandra Deiana, the reverses depict Churchill dressed in his signature bow tie, bowler hat and overcoat. Also included are the years of the life of Britain’s most influential leader who as Prime Minister (a role he held twice) played a key part in helping to defeat Germany and rallying the nation with his powerful and inspirational speeches during World War II.

An official portrait of His Majesty

The perfect complement on the obverses is an official portrait of His Majesty King Charles III by Jody Clark, who is most famous for designing the UK’s fifth and final definitive effigy of Elizabeth II. The monarch is portrayed facing left, the opposite direction to his mother, Queen Elizabeth II whose reign spanned 1952 until 2022 and who knighted Churchill in 1953.
