Historic Royal Mint Crown release – celebrating the Coronation

2023 is a significant and historic year of royal celebration with the Coronation of King Charles III. The Coronation has generated unparalleled demand from collectors for the United Kingdom’s new commemorative coinage released by the Royal Mint to mark the occasion.

The key commemorative release from the Royal Mint in any year is the UK £5 Crown – and 2023 is no different. With a history spanning back many years of celebrating key royal landmarks, the 2023 edition celebrates the Coronation of King Charles III.

The Coronation celebration proved a huge success – with the ceremony watched by hundreds of millions around the world and within the UK, a 3-day weekend of festivities enjoyed by the nation.

New Royal Mint Crown

To mark this historic royal landmark, it is only right that the Royal Mint has released a range of precious metal coins. All these coins SOLD OUT in one day. These successes underline the magnitude of the collecting opportunity that is the Coronation – with large numbers of the public wanting to understandably commemorate the historic royal occasion that we celebrate in 2023.

Today I can offer you the opportunity to secure one of the key silver issues that has been released by the Royal Mint – and that sold out within a matter of minutes of issue. This is the 2023 United Kingdom Coronation £5 Silver Proof Crown.

Small worldwide mintage

Issued with a mintage of 12,500 worldwide, this edition was always going to be far too low. To put that mintage into even more context we can compare this to other historic Royal Silver Crown releases from the Royal Mint during recent decades. 11 years ago, the total mintage for the Diamond Jubilee Crown for Queen Elizabeth II was 75,000 – whilst the iconic Silver Jubilee Crown of 1977 had 377,000 coins minted. Further to that, whilst no silver crown was issued for the Coronation in 1953, 6 million commemorative crowns were produced!

Therefore the 12,500 edition limit is tiny – and no surprise that these coins were gone in a matter of hours.

The great news for Harrington & Byrne collectors is that we were able to secure a small allocation of these coins before they were released, which now puts you in an enviable position to be able to still own one of these coins. However, my expectation is that demand from our customers is going to match that seen on the morning of its launch – therefore the small number we do have will be gone in an instant.

New Coronation Design

The new £5 coin has been struck in 925/1000 Sterling Silver by the Royal Mint to an immaculate proof finish. The coin is securely encapsulated and housed within its official Presentation Case alongside a Certificate of Authenticity.

The sold out £5 Silver Coin combines TWO magnificent designs for the Coronation. The reverse features a design that incorporates some of the Coronation Regalia that was used during the ceremony earlier this month and is the work of renowned designer Timothy Noad. Even more importantly perhaps, the coin carries a specially designed crowned portrait of the new king – produced only for use on the Coronation UK coinage. Secure your coin today – POSTFREE
