In tribute to the first coin design of the Queen’s reign

The coin’s obverse depicts the Queen wearing a laurel wreath as she appeared on the first coinage of her reign designed by British sculptor, Mary Gillick. This original effigy featured on pre-decimal UK coins from 1953 to 1970. The Queen was depicted not wearing a crown as she had not been coronated until the summer of 1953. This new design pays homage to the timeless original portrayal.
