The FIRST EVER King Charles III Gold Laurel Release – uniquely featuring a right-facing effigy of our new king with laurel crown. Yours for just £39 POSTFREE

To coincide with the beginning of the reign and his landmark 75th birthday, Harrington and Byrne is proud to announce the release of the first ever laurel gold coin for the reign of King Charles III – exclusive to our collectors.

Over recent years large numbers of collectors have been drawn to the unique nature of the Laurels, which saw the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II facing the opposite direction on the obverse to her normal appearance.

Now with her sad passing and the new reign of her son King Charles III, a new monarch now appears on the commemorative laurel – and once again features this unique appearance.

Exclusive to Harrington & Byrne

To confirm, this means that the new 2023 Laurels are the first to feature the right-facing portrait of King Charles III and will be the only coins approved for issue anywhere in the world by Buckingham Palace to feature the portrait of the King facing in this direction in the key year of his Coronation.

Just think for a moment about the many millions of coins struck in 2023 around the world that will feature the portrait of King Charles III – not just in the United Kingdom, but across the Commonwealth. The new 2023 Laurels will be the only coins officially approved for issue that features His Majesty facing to the right.

And these commemorative gold coins are exclusively available to Harrington & Byrne collectors. However, due to the limited-edition status of all the coins, you will need to act fast to secure yours.

The original Gold Laurel of King James I

The laurel coin was a successor to the original sovereign, and would only be struck for a total of 6 years during the 17th Century – the final years of the reign of King James I.

King James I of England came to the throne in 1603, having already reigned as King of Scotland since 1567. At the time the Sovereign had been the premier gold coin of the country for over a century, with a value of twenty shillings. This remained the case as the reign began, but was soon replaced by a new coin called the Unite – celebrating the uniting of the two kingdoms under the one monarch.

But the Unite would not survive for long and in 1619 a new gold coin was struck, which quickly became known as the Laurel. The coin would only be struck for 6 years and would disappear on King James I’s death – never to reappear again.

The coin was named after the obverse design that saw the king unusually wear a laurel wreath on his head, rather than a crown (and this design is reflected in the new 2023 release). In addition, the coin uniquely saw the effigy of James I face the wrong way compared to all other coins of his reign.

Unique portrait of King Charles III

Struck in 24 Carat Gold, the new Gold Proof Laurel commemorative release for 2023 seems certain once again to capture the imagination of collectors everywhere due to the fact it features the unique laurel effigy of King Charles III in the year of his Coronation and 75th Birthday.

Further to that is the fact that, just like the original Laurel Coin of the reign of King James I, the new release in 2023 sees the effigy of the King face the wrong way to all his other coinage that is currently released throughout the world. This makes this coin genuinely unique. Both these remarkable changes to the effigy have been approved by Buckingham Palace for this coin issue only.

Tiny Edition Limit

These combined changes to His Majesty’s appearance are extremely rare, therefore making the new commemorative Gold Laurel release highly collectable. With that in mind, the worldwide edition for the new 2023 Gold Proof Laurel is tiny. Just 4,999 of these coins will be issued – a hugely significant coin due to the exclusive portrait changes that feature. These coins will not last long - so please place your reservation today.
