Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II sadly passed away aged 96 years old at Balmoral Castle on Thursday 8th September 2022. Our longest-serving sovereign reigned for a record breaking 70 years since 1952 and will be remembered throughout the world for her devoted lifetime of service.

The Queen was a remarkable woman – a working mother who showed us all how to live our lives with integrity and compassion. She reigned through a 70-year period of extraordinary change and her wisdom, humility and grace was an example to us all. Her life was like the book that we never wanted to end.

To honour the Queen’s incredible life, it was only right that the Royal Mint would release an official United Kingdom coin.

Unprecedented demand expected

Unsurprisingly the demand experienced at the Royal Mint for all the memorial releases for the late Queen Elizabeth II has been unprecedented – with the nation and beyond determined to commemorate her remarkable 70-year reign. On 31 December 2022 all coins became unavailable – however, we were able to secure a final limited number of one of the most important releases – the 50p Silver proof Coin. But with just limited numbers available, an immediate response is recommended.

To add further significance, the new 50p coin carries a reverse design that poignantly features the very same design of four cruciform shields that appeared on the Coronation Crown of 1953, the first coin of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign.

Limited numbers available

This coin was released with no individual limit initially, my current understanding however is that the mintage of the coin is far less than other 50p coins released in recent years, such as the 47,000 coins that were released to mark Brexit.

Added to that, due to the significance of the release, the 50p Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Silver Coin seems certain to remain in high demand for many years to come.
