Introducing the brand new 2021 Queen Elizabeth II Gold Laurel Coin – struck in 24 Carat Gold. The new release coincides with Her Majesty’s 95th birthday celebrations and features a remarkable portrait of Queen Elizabeth II that is exclusive in 2021 to this new release – a unique appearance of the Queen facing the wrong way.
LIMITED EDITION
When Queen Elizabeth II came to the throne in 1952 her coinage followed historical precedent with her portrait facing the opposite direction to that of her father King George VI, who preceded her. In the 68 years since, millions upon millions of coins have circulated in the UK and across the Commonwealth with the Queen facing to the right.
For 2021, a brand new coin has been struck breaking this precedence. Approved by Buckingham Palace for issue, the new 24 Carat Gold Coin quite unusually sees the portrait of Her Majesty facing the wrong direction – unlike any other coin issue of the year in which she celebrated her 95th birthday. Limited to just 9,999 coins worldwide, this unique left-facing portrait is enhanced further with Queen Elizabeth II appearing with laurel rather than crown on her head – reviving the historic British coins from centuries past.
