Introducing the brand new 2024 United Kingdom Tudor Beasts release from the Royal Mint

It is with much excitement that a new United Kingdom gold coin has been launched by the Royal Mint. Featuring the iconic Seymour Unicorn, the new coin has been struck in a Quarter Ounce of pure 24-Carat Gold.

The Seymour Unicorn

The Seymour Unicorn is one of the ten heraldic Tudor Beasts that are now celebrated by the Royal Mint as the successor to the hugely successful Queen’s Beasts collection.

The Tudor Beasts to this day line the Moat Bridge entrance to Hampton Court Palace and were commissioned originally by King Henry VIII and his third wife Jane Seymour to symbolise the legitimacy of the King’s rule by portraying his regal ancestry. Differentiating it from the Unicorn of Scotland, the Seymour Unicorn wears a royal coronet on its head and a wreath of flowers around its neck. The unicorn rarely featured as a heraldic beast before it was chosen to flank the Moat Bridge. The fertility symbolism of the unicorn made it a fitting choice for the new Queen because of Henry VIII’s desire for a son and heir.

And the design on the new coin is truly magnificent – arguably one of the finest to feature on a new British coin for many years. Created by the artist and illustrator David Lawrence the coin features a magnificent depiction of the Seymour Unicorn. The obverse features the official coinage portrait of His Majesty King Charles III, designed by prolific sculptor Martin Jennings.

24 Carat Gold

The new 2024 Seymour Unicorn coin is struck in a Quarter Ounce of fine 24-Carat Gold to a peerless Proof finish by the master-craftsmen of The Royal Mint. The coin is also housed within an official Royal Mint Presentation Case and comes with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.

This certificate attests to the overall mintage that has been set at just 650 coins worldwide. A tiny mintage for a United Kingdom Quarter Ounce Gold Coin meaning some collectors will miss out especially due to the huge popularity of the Tudor Beasts Quarter Ounce coins that has seen many of the releases sell out within days of release.

Exclusive allocation secured

As a collector with Harrington & Byrne, you remain in an enviable position to be able to secure this coin due to our exclusive allocation that has been secured from the Royal Mint. However, our allocation is selling quickly meaning they won’t be available much longer.
