Own the most sought-after Sovereign coin from the reign of Queen Elizabeth II
Harrington & Byrne has been fortunate enough to have secured an extremely limited supply of the 1989 United Kingdom Gold Proof Sovereign to offer customers.
The 1989 Sovereign is a must-have issue for Sovereign collectors throughout the world due to the fact it was the first sovereign of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II to feature a change in design on the coin – and the first time since 1887 that the classic St George & the Dragon design had not adorned the coin.
Historic Anniversary Issue
Issued specially to mark the 500th anniversary of the first ever sovereign, the unique commemorative design saw a change to both the reverse & obverse of the coin – the only time such a change had occurred on both sides of the coin. The designs revived those of the very first coin of 1489.
The 1989 proof coin was limited to just 12,500 worldwide (no bullion version was issued in 1989). The coin has since become one of the most sought-after coin issues of the whole of Queen Elizabeth II reign – not surprising when it is an essential addition to any sovereign collection.
