Never-before-seen designs re-discovered after 50 years and appearing on coin for the FIRST TIME EVER to coincide with the 50th Anniversary of Decimalisation
A NEW silver coin collection, featuring never-before-seen designs which have laid undiscovered for decades in the British Museum, marks fifty years since Decimalisation. Just 2,021 of these collections are to be issued and will soon sell-out.
The NEW ‘50th Anniversary of Decimalisation Silver Proof Coin Collection’ includes six coins, each officially approved at Buckingham Palace and struck in 999/1000 Silver to the highest Proof finish. On the reverses is an original design by Christopher Ironside FRBS, who made history as the UK’s first ever decimal coin designer. While working on the new decimal coins in the late sixties he produced a wealth of sketches, many of which never made it onto the circulated coins and were, upon his death in 1992, donated to London’s British Museum.
Now, to mark the 50th Anniversary of Decimalisation a selection of previously unseen pieces of artwork has been expertly re-drawn by leading engraver and sculptor, Jody Clark, formerly of The Royal Mint. The previously top-secret designs, now re-discovered after half a century include the legend of St George and the Dragon on the fifty pence; a lion supporting a flag on the five pence; Britannia, with trident and shield, on the penny and a Royal crown above a flag on the much-loved half penny.
Christopher Ironside is best-known for his iconic ‘tail’ designs of Britain’s first decimal coins which replaced the old system of pounds, shillings and pence and graced Britain’s coinage until 2008 – but the designs featured here COULD HAVE been those that appeared on the UK coinage in 1971! Secure your collection of Fine Silver Coins today and be one of just 2,021 collectors to own this exclusive anniversary collection.
