2019 US Moon-landing Five Ounce Silver Coin To Own
2019 has marked the 50th Anniversary of the Moon-landing.
Coins throughout the world have been released to mark this key anniversary for what was arguably the most significant peacetime event of the 20th Century.
50th anniversary commemorations
It came as no surprise when the US Mint announced plans to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Moon-landing with a new series of coins in 2019. Each coin featured the same obverse design that included the inscriptions “MERCURY,” “GEMINI,” and “APOLLO,” separated by phases of the Moon, and a footprint on the lunar surface, which together represented the efforts of the United States space program leading up to the first manned Moon-landing in 1969.
Likewise, the reverse featured a representation of a close-up of the famous “Buzz Aldrin on the Moon” photograph taken July 20, 1969, that shows just the visor and part of the helmet of astronaut Buzz Aldrin. The reflection in Buzz Aldrin’s helmet includes astronaut Neil Armstrong, the United States flag, and the lunar lander.
Large weight and size
Finally, and perhaps most impressively, the coins were struck with a magnificent curved finish – representing the moon itself, with the finish reminiscent of the iconic Baseball Coin issued by the US Mint in 2014, which won numerous accolades, including the prestigious coin of the year title. The Moon-Landing commemorative issue for this year is likely to be held in the same esteem for years to come.
Where this curved finished can be most appreciated is on the substantial five-ounce silver coin release. The three-inch diameter of this release also allows both the designs on the commemorative coin to be displayed in full glory.
The coin has been struck in five full ounces of 999/1000 fine silver to a proof finish and comes housed within original United States Mint case and with Certificate of Authenticity.
Just 100,000 of the 2019 United States Moon-landing 50th Anniversary Five Ounce Silver Coins have been issued to commemorate what is one of the most significant post war events of the 20th Century – four times smaller than the mintage for the one-ounce dollar release. Out of that mintage over 50% were sold on the first day of issue alone.
Not surprising when you consider that the US Mint release was always going to be the key numismatic issue for this commemoration of worldwide significance. The beauty of the craftsmanship has only heightened that demand further.
Harrington & Byrne was able to secure a small number from the US - but these will be gone soon. Therefore it is important that you place your order today.
