2021 Australia Kangaroo Quarter Ounce Gold Proof Coin
Australia’s flagship gold coin is the kangaroo with collectors throughout the world attracted to the coin in the same way international collectors are drawn to the Sovereign, Krugerrand or Eagle each year. However, the 2021 issue is even more coveted – with the release marking the 35th anniversary of the coin.
Limited to just 1,000 pieces worldwide – SOLD OUT at mint
With that in mind, the greatest surprise about the new 2021 Australia Quarter Ounce Gold Proof Kangaroo is the mintage. Just 1,000 individual coins have been released by the Perth Mint – the edition is almost 8 times smaller than the equivalent UK Proof Sovereign. As a result of this tiny mintage, demand was always likely to be huge and combined with the key anniversary is the reason behind the coin swiftly selling out. The Australia Kangaroo is struck in pure 24 Carat Gold by the Perth Mint to a proof finish.
To mark the anniversary a number of unique additions have also been added to the kangaroo coin. Not only does the obverse feature both the latest Australian effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by our very own Jody Clark, but it also features the original portrait that was seen on the 1986 coin. Similarly, the reverse features, along with this year’s Kangaroo design, an image of a gold nugget – that appeared on the reverse of the very first Kangaroo coins. Finally, a ‘35’ has been added to the reverse design.
Harrington & Byrne was once again quick to secure an exclusive allocation of the coin for collectors in the UK. However, with such a small mintage for this key anniversary coin and a sell-out already announced, it is advisable to order your coin now – housed in Official Perth Mint Presentation Case with Certificate of Authenticity.
