Australia’s official tribute for the Coronation Jubilee celebrations
On the 2nd June 2018 Queen Elizabeth II will celebrate her Coronation Jubilee – 65 years after she was crowned at Westminster Abbey. This all-important celebration – never before seen in royal history and an occasion we will not see the likes of again in our lifetimes – has resulted in the release of a brand-new gold coin that has officially been issued by Australia.
It is understandable that the Australian nation would want to commemorate this historic occasion with such a key issue. Like the United Kingdom, the Queen is the monarch and Head of State of Australia, so it is only right that the country has decided to mark this unique royal celebration with a new gold coin.
Tiny mintage for such an important issue
The importance of this new commemorative coin is heightened further still by the size of the mintage. Just a total of 750 sovereign-sized quarter ounce gold coins will be issued by the historic Perth Mint to celebrate the Coronation Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. The only gold coin of its type to be issued by Australia for this key royal celebration, this edition limit is 14 times smaller than the UK Proof Sovereign in 2018 – an equivalent issue from United Kingdom - which has sold out.
In addition, the mintage of 750 pieces has already been fully allocated by the Perth Mint – with the coins being snapped up across the world. The good news is that Harrington and Byrne, whilst we were unable to secure the full amount of coins that we requested, has been able to secure an exclusive allocation of this key coin for collectors within the United Kingdom. This limited stock however will not last long.
Everything therefore points to a quick sell out for this unprecedented gold coin – and for the coin to repeat the success seen in 2017 when the most recent equivalent royal release from the Perth Mint sold out well before the Platinum Wedding anniversary date.
Struck in 24 Carat Gold – Purer than the Sovereign
The demand for the coin comes as little surprise. Putting to one side the extremely significant royal event that is commemorated by the coin, demand for quarter ounce gold coins from Australia is always high. One reason is the low mintages these coins usually carry, but also is the purity.
Unlike other popular gold coins issued around the world such as the Sovereign or the US Eagle, those released from the Perth Mint – including the new Coronation Jubilee coin – tend to be struck in 24 Carat gold rather than 22 Carat. This means that the coins are produced in a purer metal by the mint, which for many collectors is extremely attracted.
Housed within impressive bespoke Perth Mint Presentation Case and accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity, the 2018 Australia Coronation Jubilee Quarter Ounce Gold Proof Coin is expected to be sold out soon. With a limited allocation to offer our customers many will be left disappointed - order your coin today.
