Celebrating the Centenary of our modern royal family
2017 is a significant landmark year in the history of the British Royal Family. This year marks the Centenary of the House of Windsor.
History will remember King George V, whose reign began in 1910, as the king who in 1917, took the bold step of severing all European ties when he adopted the name ‘Windsor’ for the Royal Family – and gave birth to the modern monarchy we know today.
The Royal House of Windsor
The family’s previous name of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha was understandably viewed as completely unsuitable for a nation who was at war with Germany – and the move done out of pragmatism, especially in light of the overthrow of the Russian Royal Family on the other side of the continent. 100 years on and the ‘Windsors’ remain at the heart of our nation, whilst other monarchies across the continent have disappeared.
In this centenary year, it is right to take the chance to commemorate this landmark. As a result, to mark the centenary of our modern Royal Family, a NEW limited edition Silver Proof Piedfort £5 Coin has now been released in very limited numbers.
Worldwide mintage JUST 299
Officially approved by Buckingham Palace, the magnificent NEW Centenary of the House of Windsor Silver Proof Piedfort £5 Coin has a strict edition limit of JUST 299 coins worldwide. This is a huge commemoration for our nation and as a result, I expect demand for these coins to be extremely high due to the love and affection that continues for our Royal Family throughout the world.
The extremely low mintage also compares very favourably to other recent Silver Piedfort releases from throughout the Commonwealth. For example, the most recent UK Silver Piedfort commemorative crown has a mintage that is over 8 times larger in size than that of the new House of Windsor piece - underlining the low edition size for the new coin.
Struck in Solid 925/1000 Sterling Silver to the most immaculate proof finish, the superb NEW Centenary of the House of Windsor £5 Piedfort Coin has been produced to the highest possible minting standards as a beautiful and lasting tribute of an extraordinary Royal milestone to pass down to future generations of your family. The coin has also been struck in double thickness Piedfort finish - an unusual but extremely popular finish with collectors.
Magnificent anniversary design
At the heart of the new design is the round tower of Windsor Castle – so synonymous with the Royal Family for centuries and where the modern family would take its name. Surrounding this iconic image is the effigy of the four monarchs from the Windsor Dynasty – including King Edward VIII who would reign for less than a year and never be crowned, and the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.
Each coin comes housed within deluxe Presentation Case and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity – confirming the total mintage of just 299 coins. Indeed, it will be unlikely that any other silver coin will be issued for this landmark royal occasion in 2017 with such a small edition limit, which should lead to a swift sell-out.
